Simplicity VoIP v41 Upgrade Feature Review, Improves Security, Part 2
To ensure you are getting the most out of your phone system, our Simplicity engineers are releasing a new software update! On September 30, 2020, the v41 release will be available to current and new Simplicity VoIP clients – and most are for no additional costs.
Today’s blog reviews v41’s new features that improve security, highlighting each feature’s benefit to our clients.
v41 was designed to deliver three crucial components, or pillars:
- Improved efficiency,
- Improved security, and
- Improved collaboration.
The Second Pillar: Improved Security
The second pillar revolves around improving the security of our site and your information. We are committed to keep your information safe and secure, and these updates bolster those efforts.
Less Logging In is More: Single Sign-On (SSO)
SSO allows users to access their Simplicity VoIP account seamlessly across multiple devices via existing account access including Google and Office 365. With it, you can log into your phone account with the single click of the button. Rather than maintaining multiple passwords, you can link your email to your Simplicity account to reduce the number of sign-ons. By limiting your sign-ins, you limit the chances for your information to be stolen. So not only is SSO more efficient, it’s more secure too. Even better, it’s completely free. The Double Check: Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
MFA offers an added layer of security that implements a two-step verification process for authenticating users accessing their Simplicity VoIP account. With MFA, you can register a device to receive secure one-time passwords using apps like Google Authenticator to ensure that the person logging in is really you. The time-based one-time password that, as the name implies, works only once and for a limited time. It sends these passwords to user-owned devices, protecting the user from fraudulent access. Once again, this new feature is completely free. MFA At a Glance
CAPTCHA for Phone Calls: STIR/SHAKEN – Coming Soon
STIR (Secure Telephone Identity Revisited) and SHAKEN (Signature-based Handling of Asserted Information Using toKENs) come together to make an incredibly easy and efficient way to combat spoofing. Spoofing is a commonly used tactic where robocallers will alter their phone number to appear less suspicious. It’s a complicated system but, STIR/SHAKEN is a form of caller ID authentication, that negates the effects of spoofing ensuring that the phone number you see is the phone number that’s calling.
